Logic and strategy games have enjoyed unwavering popularity for many years. Which game should you choose to start with? Which one doesn’t have many complicated rules and won’t get boring after a few games? The answer is simple – checkers!

It is an iconic game where we can graduate the difficulty level: from learning the basic moves that the pawns make, to duels and point-based tournaments where predicting and planning moves several turns in advance will count. Thanks to this, playing checkers is engaging for preschoolers, school-age children, and adults alike!

Checkers is complemented by 12 game suggestions. The scenarios include both example modifications of the classic game of checkers (a total of 8 variants) as well as 4 games that use the pawns and the checkers board.

While playing Checkers, a child develops: concentration, visual perception, eye-hand coordination, logical thinking, and spatial awareness. Did you know that:

1. Concentration is the ability to focus attention on something specific. It can be a performed activity, a specific object, or instructions given by a teacher. Attentional concentration ensures the child's proper development and is necessary at every stage of their education.
2. Visual perception allows a child to get to know and understand the world around them. It is also necessary in further education when learning to read, write, and count. By playing with several elements with different pictures, a child must focus their vision on them and evaluate what they see, e.g., colors, shapes, similarities, and differences. This is an introduction to more advanced analysis, which is, among other things, the basis of logical thinking.
3. Eye-hand coordination enables the achievement of movement precision. It is necessary in everyday activities – from eating independently, dressing, drawing, or writing to physical activity. Eye-hand coordination additionally requires training the child's hands and fingers, i.e., fine motor skills.
4. Logical thinking allows for analyzing situations, drawing conclusions, and developing possible solutions based on gathered information. It is one of the skills that a child may find difficult to achieve. Why is it worth exercising logical thinking? Because it is necessary at every stage of our lives.
5. Thanks to spatial awareness, a child is able to predict what an arrangement consisting of several elements will look like, determine the relationships between objects, or identify their position in a given area. spatial awareness is extremely important for further learning, especially for developing mathematical and technical abilities.
